2 Year Old Dead After Shooting Himself With A Gun He Found On Parent’s Couch

Two-year-old Christopher Williams Jr got hold of a gun on his parent’s sofa on Sunday afternoon and shot himself. Police in Houston said that parents left a 9mm pistol lying on the couch which Williams Jr picked up, and pointed at his head.

Williams Jr was rushed to hospital however did not survive. The incident occurred at approximately 1 pm on Sunday, and both parents were home at the time. Police believe the gun belongs to Junior’s father, Christopher Charles Williams, however it currently isn’t known if Williams legally owns the gun, as he was convicted in 2009 for being a felon whilst possessing a handgun.

Williams and his wife were interviewed by Houston Police Department’s Special Victims Division to determine how Junior got the gun. Captain David Angelo from HPD said it was a tragic incident and that gun owners are urged to lock their weapons up safely. “Unfortunately, it’s something that didn’t need to happen. But hopefully parents can heed this advice and let’s hope nothing like this happens again, it’s very traumatic.”

Junior is the third boy to die by accidental shooting in Houston in just five months, as Justin Gooden, 6, shot himself with his sister’s boyfriend’s pistol in February, and Kadren Johnson, 4, shot himself with a gun he found in his grandmother’s home.
