105 Year-Old Japanese Man Becomes Oldest Competitve Sprinter In The World

Hidekichi Miyazaki claimed a remarkable record by becoming the oldest competitive sprinter in the world. The 105 year old Japanese man ran the 100 meter dash in 42.22 seconds, cementing his place in history as possibly one of the fittest people to have ever lived. Being fit is one thing, but sustaining fitness levels for over a century is extraordinary.

Hidekichi is a father of four and a grandfather of ten, but those statistics mean nothing when you consider his dedication to his new hobby. According to his family members, the sprinter did not take up track events until the age of 93. Before that, Hidekichi worked in an agricultural cooperative for the better part of his life. When asked about how he felt prior to making the runner, the record holder had this to say to CNN: “I slept very well last night. I was really moved that something like this can happen.

In addition to competing in the track event, Hidekichi also also competed in the shot put event and managed a respectable throw of 3.25 meters.
