Young Amputee Gets Offer To Model On Catwalk
20 year old Vicky Balch was one of four young people who were involved in a crash on a ride at Alton Towers theme park. She never imagined that getting onto a ride called “The Smiler” would end up with her in the hospital, forcing her to undergo a leg amputation, but unfortunately, that was the case.
She recently spoke on TV about the process of the amputation, and this is what she had to say: “I remember it going into my knees and it hurt. The pain was indescribable. It hurt so much, as I’m talking about it I can still feel how it did as it crashed into my legs. I couldn’t tell you how many times it impacted on it because I fainted. I didn’t want to look at my legs. I never thought I would be able to walk again. I could see it dripping the entire time. I didn’t think I would make it. I didn’t think I could cope with the pain for as long as I did.“
She is now rehabilitating, and doing very well, and has recently been offered a chance to model on a catwalk as a way to promote “Models of Diversity.” The event will be held in west London, at Shepherd’s Bush Market, and it will showcase various disabled models. The event was called ‘inspirational’ by Ambassador for Models of Diversity Sarah O’Rourke.
Inspirational is the perfect word for this situation, and someone as positive and resilient as Vicky Balch deserves such a great opportunity.
