Man Pays College Parking Ticket 40 Years After Graduating

College students know all too well how horrible parking can be on campus. Often times, students get parking tickets that take them forever to pay back. Those tickets can even prevent them from getting their college diplomas. That wasn’t the case for Kent Broyhill who recently sent his alma mater, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, $100 to pay off old parking tickets. The real kicker is that Broyhill graduated college over 40 years ago.

Broyhill stated that he attempted to pay the parking fines before his graduation in 1974. At the time, an officer at the campus police station told him that the school only accepted cash payments. Broyhill didn’t have any cash and the officer simply gave him a pass and told him to pay the ticket off as soon as he could.

Kent Broyhill said a recent conversation with a friend made him realized he didn’t pay the $100 fine. He sent the university a letter explaining what happen and sent the $100 payment. “I can’t remember how many tickets I had, or what I owed, so I got out my checkbook and sent (the university) $100. I promised I would pay them. It was the right thing to do.”

The university sent Broyhill the money back because there wasn’t any record of his parking violation. Any paper tickets dating back to the 1970’s and 1980’s were deemed uncollectable and written off.
