Kraft Easy Mac Causes Capitol Employees To Evacuate

Oh, the fresh-from-the-oven smell of mac and cheese,” said no one at the Iowa Capitol building last Monday, April 27th. Instead it was smoke that filled the air and set off the alarm around 11 a.m. causing all workers to evacuate the building.

Secretary of the Senate Michael Marshall told Des Moines Register the alarm was triggered by smoke coming from an oven just behind the Senate chamber. What was inside? A burnt Kraft Easy Mac macaroni and cheese. What usually looks like cheesy goodness, appeared black as coal. Luckily, no one was hurt – though someone obviously lost their lunch. The evacuation was lifted five minutes later and employees were allowed to resume work at the building.

Marshall said he hope he does not have to issue a memo reminding staff to be careful when cooking their lunch in the microwave and that the siren heard that day would be enough as a warning. There is no word yet on the identity of the employee who left his lunch for too long in the microwave and whether a sanction will be given.
