Kevin Smith Makes A Major Announcement That Should Have You Excited

Love him or hate him, Kevin Smith continues to make movies. A few years ago, the director had semi-retired from the industry, but the release of his most recent film Tusk has revitalized his interest. He’s currently hard at work on the two sequels that are set in the same universe as Tusk, and it looks like he might be returning to some of the classic films that launched his career. Smith took to Facebook to explain what he’s been working on.

Saw some websites are reporting CLERKS III will be my last flick. I did say this at one point, but Tusk changed all that. Now, the next 2 years are booked. We shoot CLERKS III in May. The HIT SOMEBODY hockey miniseries finally follows in the fall, shooting September to Christmas 2015. Then in Feb/March 2016, we tackle MOOSE JAWS and ANTI-CLAUS. And after that? I smell a rat…

Clerks III and Moose Jaws come as no surprise because the director had previously announced that pre-production had begun on both films. Hit Somebody has been in the works for a long time, so it’s nice to finally see some acknowledgement of its existence. The real zinger here is his cryptic message about a “rat”. He’s clearly referencing the cult classic film, Mallrats. Fans have been begging for a return to those characters for some time, so it will be interesting to see what Smith can come up with.

His films are very niche. They have a hard time connecting with major audiences, but his fans love them. We’ll have to wait and see if any of these new films have the potential to become mainstream successes.
