Indiana Mansion Being Sold For $199 To Essay Winner

A house that can only be described as a mansion is going up for sale. Despite the fact that the house weighs in at 4,000 square feet, the owner says she is willing to sell the property for just $199 as long as the person she sells to is also the winner of a local essay contest. The house is known in the area as the River House and along with those 4,000 square feet comes vaulted ceilings, a fireplace, two jetted tubs, and a great room with panoramic views of the river.

So what is the big catch? The essay for those who want to buy the house have to write has to be an explanation as to why they should be chosen. The essay needs to be incredibly persuasive considering it also has to be under 200 words. “I do not want the job to judging the essays, that would be tough,” said homeowner Rhonda Penninigton. “I graduated from Hanover College, I am an alum. I contacted them and they are supplying an anonymous panel of judges to judge… They pick the winner.” Each person who enters the contest pays the $199 fee and that money goes into an escrow account, funding the sale of the house.
