Former James Bond Actor Enrages Social Media After Racist Comments

Actor Roger Moore has found himself in risky waters after a comment he made about Idris Elba playing James Bond in future films. Moore played the titular character in seven films before he was replaced by Timothy Dalton.

Currently, Daniel Craig is playing Bond in the new films and rumors of him being replaced have begun to spread. Idris Elba is one of the names that has been floating around the internet for some time and he has gained popularity with the fans.

During an interview with Paris Match, Moore commented on the idea of Elba taking on the 007 handle and his statement has caused quite the controversy in the world of social media.

“A few years ago, I said that Cuba Gooding Jr. would make an excellent Bond, but it was a joke!” Moore exclaimed. “Although James may have been played by a Scotsman, a Welshman and an Irishman, I think he should be ‘English-English’. Nevertheless, it’s an interesting idea, but unrealistic.”

The blatantly racist comments have ticked off a lot of people. Twitter and Facebook exploded with people defending Elba and attacking Moore. The 86-year-old actor took to Twitter to clear up the incident stating that “An interview I gave to Paris Match implies I said something racist about Idris Elba. That is simply untrue. #Lost in translation.”
