Federal Judge Shot While Taking Out the Trash In Detroit


A Detroit, Michigan, neighborhood was the scene of a shooting of a federal judge that occurred on March 5th, 2015. According to a Fox News report, Judge Terrence G. Berg was taking out the trash at his home when he was shot in the leg after 9 p.m. Two suspects approached him, and during the struggle, a shot was fired, striking the judge in the leg.

Judge Berg has been hospitalized for his injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening, but he is listed in temporary serious condition. Judge Berg was appointed by President Obama in 2012 to serve in Flint over the Eastern District of Michigan. Prior to this appointment, he served as an assistant U.S. Attorney. In 2010, he was appointed acting First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia.

According to the Detroit Free Press, The U.S. Marshals, FBI, and Detroit police are working together to apprehend the suspects. The two young male suspects, approximately 18-20 years of age, fled the scene in either a black Dodge or Chrysler car. It is believed at this time that the suspects intended to commit a home invasion or robbery. Judge Berg is married and has three children.
