Elusive And Crafty Coyote Sparks Extensive Police Hunt

On Wednesday, April 22nd, an extensive police hunt shut down Riverside Park, The Colombia University, and even Grant’s Tomb in the New York area. After spotting the fugitive during the morning in Manhattan’s West Side, the New York City Police department quickly engaged a plethora of helicopters and ground units to hunt for the target.

But who was this fugitive to garner such attention? Why, none other than a single coyote. As it turns out, the Bronx, Queens, and even New Jersey have been seeing a lot more coyotes lately, and now they are infiltrating New York City’s more expensive towns. Wildlife experts claim that coyotes are feeling more at ease in cities, which provide a larger hunting ground.

Roland Kays, a zoologist at North Carolina State University, said, The influx of coyotes into urban areas…is a sign of their ability to adapt to environments where they are drawn to abundance of food including mice, squirrels, rabbits and, sometimes, pet cats…They are finding the urban areas that have little scraps of habitat that they can making a living in”.

The police were unfortunately unable to capture the single coyote, despite all the manpower involved. The resourceful little guy remains at large. New Yorkers quickly inundated various social media with jokes. Most of these comments humorously compared the coyote to the Dr. Richard Kimball character, played by Harrison Ford, in the movie The Fugitive.
