Cynthia Lennon, Ex-Wife Of John Lennon, Dies At 75

After a short battle with an undisclosed form of cancer, Cynthia (Powell) Lennon passed away at the age of 75 on April 1st, 2015.

Before Yoko Ono became an immovable and controversial figure in John Lennon’s too-short life, there was Cynthia (Powell) Lennon, his first wife from 1962 to 1968, who he divorced a few months after meeting Ono. Born in 1939, Cynthia Powell married John Lennon in 1962 just as the Beatles were emerging as the music industry’s most wildly popular band. At the time she married Lennon, she was already pregnant with their first and only child, Julian, who was born in 1963. Julian Lennon has posted the following statement on his website following the death of his mother:

“Cynthia Lennon passed away today at her home in Mallorca, Spain, following a short but brave battle with cancer. Her son Julian Lennon was at her bedside throughout. The family is thankful for your prayers. Please respect their privacy at this difficult time”.

Paul McCartney also paid tribute to Cynthia Lennon on April 1st, 2015 by releasing the following to the press: “The news of Cynthia’s passing is very sad. She was a lovely lady who I’ve known since our early days together in Liverpool. She was a good mother to Julian and will be missed by us all, but I will always have great memories of our times together.
