Chunk Of Whale Vomit Expected To Sell Upwards Of $10,000

A man who found a chunk of hardened whale vomit may be about to be $10,000 richer when the puke goes up for auction. Found when a man was out walking his dog on an island near to Wales, the vomit is actually a prized commodity and the auction house has started the bidding so high because they expect it to sell for much more.

Expelled by a sperm whale, the substance is rare as the animals usually get rid of it through feces but larger chunks are vomited to help them pass more easily. Although it may seem like a strange thing to try to sell, the ambergris is valuable because of the fact it has a particular property that is of great interest to perfumers as it can help ensure that scents stick to human skin.

This makes it an essential ingredient in expensive perfume as those making the sweet smelling liquid have to make sure the scent stays on a person for a long time. No wonder then that other chunks of the substance have sold for $150,000 in the past.
