Chinese Tourists Are Warned Of Shootings And Medical Cost In The United States

Citizens of China who are planning a trip to the United States have been warned by China’s embassy in the US that there are “frequent shootings” and medical care in the US is high.

China is currently fifth on the United States’ visitor charts, with 3 million Chinese citizens vising the US last year, and this number is expected to increase by 50 percent by 2022 – with an estimated 4.5 million tourists going to the US each year. China is only beat by Canada, Mexico, Britain and Japan.

The statement told potential tourists that “social security in the States is not satisfactory. Shootings, robbery, theft happen frequently. Be aware of suspicious people around you and avoid going out alone at night.” The statement also noted that the emergency service line, 911, provides a Chinese-language service.

The Chinese embassy also noted that “a US visa does not guarantee you have the right to enter the country,” it said. “Law enforcers at the customs [desks] have the ultimate power to decide.” The statement also said that “arguing with law enforces won’t help, [and] will only make things worse.” Additionally, the statement told tourists that they do not have the right to legal representation in disputes with border authorities, unless it is a criminal investigation or they are placed in custody.

The Chinese embassy also said that medical treatment in the US can be expensive, so anyone planning a trip to the United States should have a suitable health insurance policy.
