Carly Rae Jepsen Finally Wrote Another Song, You’ll Never Guess What It’s About

Carly Rae Jepson first stormed her way into our collective musical hearts with her hit single “Call Me Maybe”. After the release of that song, the Canadian crooner seemed to have run out of material, having released very little music after her single got stuck in all our heads. Finally, it appears Carly Rae Jepson is ready to get us hooked on her music all over again with the release of a new single, this time titled “I Really Like You”.

Yes, that’s right, it appears the bubblegum pop songstress has decided to journey down the path of a burgeoning romance. The first song was all about Carly Rae Jepson meeting a boy she liked and who she wasn’t sure liked her back. This song appears to almost be a continuation of that story, only the imaginary couple have managed to spend some time together and are moving forward in their relationship. The story of the song really isn’t the… story here. What is the story is that the singer has managed to put out another song that critics are already claiming is on par with her first hit.

As the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports, it seems Carly Rae Jepson’s team didn’t want to bother releasing a single unless they were confident it could be a bit hit. “I told her that she couldn’t come out with anything unless it was on the level of ‘Call Me Maybe’“, Jepsen’s manager Scooter Braun told Billboard in January. “And, now we have a new one that is on that level.”

Her first hit, released in 2011, saw a number of different parodies of Carly Rae Jepson’s single. Because imitation is still considered to be the sincerest form of flattery, it doesn’t appear anyone in the singer’s camp minded the parodies much at all. Now we’ll just have to see whether Carly Rae Jepson has captured lightning in a bottle again.
