Amtrak Train Derails In Philadelphia, Five Dead

An Amtrak passenger train derailed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday night and initial reports said that the accident had left at least five dead and at minimum 50 wounded. The train crashed outside of Philadelphia city limits and that 238 passengers and five employees were aboard when the derailment happened. Fox News is reporting that the train was traveling to New York from Washington, DC. The train was going into a turn when it began to shake and hopped the tracks.

It is an absolute disastrous mess,” Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter told reporters at a briefing. “Never seen anything like this in my life.” He added. It just so happened that a reporter from the Associated Press was on the train and was not hurt. Paul Cheung said he was watching Netflix when the train started to decelerate quickly, as though someone had slammed on the brakes. “Then suddenly you could see everything starting to shake,” Cheung said. “You could see people’s stuff flying over me.”
