American And European Space Agencies Play Real Life ‘Asteroids’

According to recent reports, the way to save earth from a possible impact from space is to recreate one of the most popular arcade games of all-time -on a massive scale.

According to NBC, NASA and the European space agency have begun working to save the world from a possible future asteroid impact. Reminiscent of the arcade game ‘Asteroid’ the scientists plan to settle a lander on a passing space rock and conduct tests, before launching a second satellite at it like a large bullet travelling at 13,000 mph. Apparently the destruction caused can contribute a great deal of scientific data, in addition to its possible earth saving functions.

The asteroid impact mission is scheduled for 2020, with the target set on a binary asteroid system that will pass within 7 million miles of Earth two years later. The debris will be analyzed closely and should the test deflect the asteroid significantly, this method could be used to redirect objects heading for Earth.
