65-Year-Old German Grandmother Gives Birth To Quadruplets
A 65-year-old German grandmother gave birth to quadruplets in a Berlin hospital this week and, while the three boys and girl were born prematurely at 28 weeks, it looks like everyone is in good health and has a good chance at survival.
The mother, Annegret Raunigk, already has 13 children and 7 grandchildren, but now she has four new bundles of joy. The pregnancy was announced last month and it caused a lot of controversy, especially since Raunigk is 65 years old. She received fertility treatments in the Ukraine and is the oldest woman in the world to deliver quadruplets. There have been other women her age and even older that have had babies, but none of them have had quadruplets.
Raunigk is a single mother and an English and Russian teacher in Berlin, but she might need to retire soon to take care of the babies. They were born by Caesarean section on May 19 and weighed between 1.4 pounds and 2.1 pounds.
