Here’s How Much The Royal Wedding Cost

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding was astonishing, but how much does a wedding like that actually cost? Experts from around the world have come together and put a rough figure on the cost of the wedding, and it’s supposedly one of the ten most expensive weddings ever.

It has been estimated that the wedding cost approximately £32 million – or $43 million USD, which is 60 percent more than the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011, which was £20 million. Now the cost of the wedding is staggering; for the single event it costs more than the average person would make in ten lifetimes.

For the cost of Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding, you’d be able to pay for more than a thousand weddings in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, or Australia. The average cost of a wedding in the US is $25,000 – but a lot of couples try to keep their budget below $10,000. So that begs the question, what caused Harry and Meghan’s wedding to cost so much? We’ve got a breakdown below.

  • £90,000 for 20 silver-plated trumpets
  • £50,000 for the wedding cake
  • £110,000 on flowers
  • £300,000 to hire the glass marque
  • £26,000 on food and drinks for the 2,640 members of the public who were invited
  • £350,000 on Meghan’s dress
  • £30,000,000 on security

That’s a lot of money on security – but with the recent terrorist attacks in Europe and the possibility for one to occur at such a big event such as a Royal Wedding, it was worth it. Unfortunately, tax payers paid for the security – but they’ve been assured that the Royal Wedding will boost Britain’s economy, providing £500 million in tourism and merchandise. The remainder of the wedding costs were paid for by the Royal Family, however it’s reported that Meghan paid for her own dress.
