Paralyzed Man Walks Across Graduation Stage To Receive His Degree

Chris Norton is living proof that with hard work and perseverance, you can do just about anything you set your mind to. Five years ago, Norton suffered a spinal injury while playing football. At the time, doctors were worried that he would never walk again and even stated he had a 3 percent chance of ever recovering movement below his neck.

He proved them wrong and now, five years later, he walked across the graduation stage at Luther College to get his degree with the help of his fiancee. Norton set the goal one year ago and with a lot of hard work in physical therapy, he was able to meet his goal at graduation. While he is still confined to the wheelchair, he has regained movement in his arms during this process.

In the video, Norton said, “I want to continue and improve my walking, my therapy, my independence. That will always be a goal of mine.”
