New Study Says Global Warming Will Result In The Extinction Of 1 In 13 Animal Species

Global warming is definitely a hot-button issue that is debated on all types of platforms. Though some people try to deny it exists at all, more and more data is showing that its effects are all too real.

Mark Urban, an ecologist from The University of Connecticut, analyzed 131 peer-reviewed studies on global species and got some scary results. The study showed that the average extinction rate for species is 7.9%. This result is even more sobering considering Urban only took temperature into account, and not other factors like natural disasters. Although results with those factors would be nearly impossible to gather, it is clear they would raise 7.9% to an even higher number.

The global extinction rate is currently 2.8% although it continues to rise due to environmental damage. Urban predicts that the absolute worst case scenario for species reduction due to global warming would mean 1 in 6 species is rendered extinct by the end of the century.
