Nearly 300 Girls Rescued By Nigerian Army In Sambisa Forest
The Nigerian Army has announced they have rescued 200 girls and 93 women from a location where Islamist militant group Boko Haram has been active. Unfortunately, the girls abducted from a school within Chibok last year were not among them, reports BBC.
Four Boko Haram camps were seized during the military operations within Sambisa Forest. A military spokesman has said the rescued women are now being interviewed. Along with the women, weapons were seized from the camp in the most recent operation.
Nigerian forces have managed to take back territory across the country that had previously been under control by Boko Haram. Several nations have vowed to help the military forces within the country to find the girls. Sightings have been reported, though they have not yet been recovered.
The Boko Haram insurgency, and the military campaign against them, has taken the lives of over 15,500 people since 2012. Violence has begun spreading into neighboring countries, including Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.
