Invasion Of The Sea Slugs In San Francisco

What would you do if a giant purple blob washed ashore at the beach you were enjoying? You’d probably run away, unless you knew that purple slimy thing was just a lost and lonely sea slug.

The technical name for this thing reminiscent of a horror movie killer is California Sea Hare, and they eat plants, not people. Innocent or not, they seem to be washing up all over beaches in and around San Francisco, making swimming and sun bathing a little less desirable. Scientists believe that it is the warmer temperatures that are causing this behavior. Sea hares can weigh up to 15 pounds and can sometimes be more than 30 inches long.

Contrary to the warm weather belief, another person said that after they lay their eggs the sea hares die, and then wash ashore. Even grosser than this purple non-people eater itself is its eggs, which resemble a pile of cooked ramen noodles.
