Experts Claim Three-Day Weekends Should Happen Each Week

Well, summer is almost over and many of us are wishing we could have a three-day weekend at the end of every single week. A three-day period would give everyone ample time to relax after a lengthy period of work, and according to experts, that’s exactly what should happen — all the time.

David Spencer, Professor of Economics and Political Economy at the University of Leeds, believes this extended period of time off should even be extended further to a four-day weekend instead. Apparently that time means a significantly reduced risk of a stroke, coronary heart disease, and the development of type 2 diabetes. The overall mental well-being of workers will improve, too. Speaking in ‘The Conversation’, Spencer said:

“It is a mark of how we have come to accept work and its dominant influence in our lives that we do not grasp this idea more readily. By working most of the time, we also lose time with family and friends. And more than this we lose the ability to be and do things that make life valuable and worth living.

See [the Bank Holiday weekend] as a reminder of a life that could be – a life that we should seek to achieve, by resolving to overcome the barriers, economic as well as ideological and political, to working less.”

Most governments probably won’t go for the idea, but we’d love to see it happen eventually.
