Dozens Of Police Storm JetBlue Plane At JFK Fearing It Had Been Hijacked


Passengers on board a JetBlue plane witnessed dozens of police surrounding and storming the plane shortly before takeoff at John F. Kennedy airport in New York on Tuesday night after the cockpit had stopped communicating. At approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday night Port Authority police surrounded JetBlue flight 1623, stopping it from getting close to the terminal, with the Department of Homeland Security and FBI also being present.

The flight departed the gate at JFK airport at approximately 7.30 p.m. and was taxing for departure en route to Los Angeles International Airport, when the aircraft “experienced a radio equipment problem.” In a statement released by the Federal Aviation Administration, “the crew requested to return to the ramp” however shortly after dozens of police surrounded the plane as air traffic controllers feared that the plane had been hijacked after the pilots stopped communicating.

Flight 1623 was stuck on the runway for more than 90 minutes before it was towed back to the gate and cleared. No one was injured during the incident, however passengers aboard the flight were forced to make other arrangements to get to LAX.
