Bank Robber Uses Instagram To Record The Crime He’s Committing
In this day and age, social media has one of the largest presences in daily lives. No longer do people have to send letters to let friends and loved ones to let them know what they are up to. Now, you can simply places statuses, videos, and photographs on the internet and people can instantly access them. While this can be a great way to stay in contact with others, some people simply do not understand what can happen when you use these communities. A bank robber in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is one of those people.
On Monday, May 4, 2015, Dominyk Antonio Alfonseca robbed the TowneBank. Moments after entering the bank, he passes the teller a handwritten note that said “I Need $150,000 Bands Right Now!! Please Police take 3 to 4 minutes to get here, I would appreciate if you Ring the alarm a minute after I am gone… make sure the money doesn’t blow up on my way out. :-)” Soon after the teller handed him the money, he left the bank and began posting photographs and videos to his Instagram account. These images included the note as well as the stack of cash he received. Police arrested him not even a day later for the robbery. The Instagram account has since been taken down.
However, on a twist of things, Alfonseca does not believe he will be charged with the robbery. Despite how the situation looks, he points out a very interesting loophole. “I don’t know how I’m a robber because I asked for it. She could have said no, and I could have left,” was the statement he gave to police. He also said “A robbery is going in and demanding something and taking the money. I didn’t do that. I’m basically asking permission for money. In my eyes, I did not commit a robbery, and I feel I’m being charged without reason.” It is unclear whether or not he will face time in jail for this act. His hearing is schedule for June 12th.
