A local council in the Kazakh capital city of Astana have allegedly planted a whole garden of marijuana in the centre of the town by accident. According to reports, council officials have now launched a full investigation into how the cannabis plants ended up in flowerbeds. Although they haven’t ruled out that it may have been the work of ‘guerilla gardeners’.

Suspicions were first aroused when local residents noticed an unusual smell coming from the local flowerbeds. Upon further investigation, they realized that the smell was coming from what appeared to be cannabis plants and informed the police.

It’s still unclear exactly how the marijuana came to be planted in the city in the first place. The contractor responsible for maintaining the plant life in the city center, Zelenstroy, has also launched their own investigation in addition to the council’s in order to try to understand how the accident happened. Speaking in a statement the service added, “If they are marijuana plants we will remove them immediately.
