US Senate Candidate Wants to Arm The Homeless With Shotguns

Brian Ellison, a Libertarian in Michigan running for US Senate has suggested that homeless people are armed with shotguns or pistols in an attempt to reduce crime. He has said that homeless people are “constantly victims of violent crimes” and that the US should arm them with pump-action shotguns as a deterrent.

“Frankly I think the ideal weapon would be a pistol. But due to the licensing requirements in the state we’re going to have a hard enough time getting homeless people shotguns as it is. Getting them pistols is probably next to impossible. The pistols need to be registered, people have to have addresses,” Ellison said.

Ellison is a former soldier who has served in Iraq, told The Guardian that he’s running for office to try and make a difference, believing that arming the homeless with pump-action shotguns will accomplish that.

“The first thing that we’re going to do is ask them if they think this is something that would benefit them. We’re certainly not trying to force anything on anybody” Ellison said.
