Typhoon Noul Brushes The Philippines
On Sunday, May 10th, Typhoon Noul brushed across Manila, Philippines. Fortunately, this meant that the typhoon spared the country from its full fury. According to The Wall Street Journal, this is still the year’s strongest storm yet.
The 220KMPH winds and heavy rains from this storm meant that officials ordered everyone to evacuate to government shelters. Even though the government evacuated over 2,000 people, there were still two people killed. Of course, this is a blessing considering that in November 2013 Typhoon Haiyan drowned more than 7,300 people.
According to the national weather bureau, Typhoon Noul mainly stayed out over the ocean, only making brief landfall in Santa Ana (a coastal town in Cagayan). There’s still no word from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council regarding damages. They’ll assess damages after the typhoon departs on Tuesday morning, heading towards Japan. Nonetheless, many people are thankful for the rain the typhoon brought to their drought-stricken country.
