Chilean Soccer Player Banned From Copa America After Sexually Assaulting Another Player

Chilean soccer player Gonzalo Jara has reportedly been banned from performing at the rest of Copa America after inappropriately touching Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani during the match between two countries at the world-famous tournament. Jara’s actions were caught on camera and have caused quite an outrage in the media. After reaching way below the belt, Jara was punched in the face by Cavani, the man he assaulted. The judges, however, didn’t eject Jara but Cavani as he received a second yellow card that match.

After the game, Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez stated in an interview with Sky Sports to simply look at the tape. “For the expulsion of Cavani, you can see what happened and what the challenge was. I refer you to the television and photos of it, it is all there,” Tabarez told the reporters. Jara didn’t escape punishment after all. According to one of the reporters covering Copa America, Jara has been banned from the remainder of the tournament. This wasn’t the first time Jara assaulted another player on the field. In 2013, he touched Suarez’s genitals during a qualifying match for the World Cup which led to Suarez punching Jara in the face.
