Auschwitz Concentration Camp Museum Install “Showers” To Cool Off Visitors

In a stunning example of insensitivity, the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp museum installed outdoor showers to cool off visitors. Of course, the showers are a distressing reminder of the way the Nazis forced some people to take showers before having them placed in gas chambers.

The Observer reported that some Israeli visitors were outraged and wondered if the showers amounted to a “Holocaust gimmick.” Additionally, some of the visitors lost relatives in the Holocaust.

A spokesman said that the showers are really “misting hoses,” and explained that it was all done to make visitors more comfortable in the heat wave that Poland is having. The temperatures in the area of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum have been above 85 degrees Fahrenheit recently. The spokesman explained that the misters were “sprinklers,” not “showers.” It seems as though he was desperately trying to excuse the colossally stupid decision to install the showers at Auschwitz.
