You’ll Never Guess What This Company Is Planning To Use Sewage Water For

A Portland-based company is thinking about putting sewage waste to a creative use. Clean Water Services has begun petitioning the DEQ’s Environmental Quality Commission (EQC) to permit them to use recycled waste water to manufacture beer. The regulatory agency DEQ allows the use of recycled water for drinking purposes, provided it undergoes a particular process that includes approval from a public hearing and state and national state agencies.

Mark Jockers, a spokesperson for Clean Water Services, said that the company uses a special purification system that makes the sewage water cleaner than a glass of water. He further said, “The water that comes from the high purity water system is the cleanest water on the planet. Some of our treated water is used for irrigation, but the market for recycled waste water doesn’t have to end there.

If the EQC accepts the proposal, Portland residents will soon be drinking this unusual brew.
