Gold Bikini Worn By Princess Leia In Star Wars Sells For $96,000

The skimpy gold bikini that was worn by actress Carrie Fisher when she played Princess Leia in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi has sold at auction for $96,000. Sold by Profiles In History through an online auction, the winner got the gold painted rubber bikini along with the collar and chain also used in the movie. Star Wars designer Richard Miller provided a certificate to authenticate the piece and prove it was genuine.

Fisher disliked the costume even though it became a huge hit with fans and spawned multiple parodies and imitations after the film released, saying: “She gets to be more feminine, more supportive, more affectionate. But let’s not forget that these movies are basically boys’ fantasies. So the other way they made her more female in this one was to have her take off her clothes.”

In addition to the gold bikini, the online auction also saw a miniature model of the Blockade Runner seen at the beginning of the first Star Wars film sell for a record $450,000. This made it the most expensive Star Wars artifact ever sold.
