“Furious 7” Has Record-Breaking Opening Weekend

The 7th installment of “The Fast And The Furious” franchise was released on April 3rd, 2015, and it has already become a huge success in the few days it’s been out. The movie raked in $143.6 million dollars in the domestic box office this weekend, and another $240 million around the world. Many believe these numbers are largely due to movie-goers who specifically went to remember the franchise’s star, Paul Walker, who tragically died in a car accident in 2013.

Furious 7 has the 9th biggest opening weekend in movie history. It currently holds the record for biggest April opening weekend, knocking Captain America: Winter Soldier, which made $95 million dollars in its opening weekend, out of the top April spot. Experts who anticipated Furious 7 would make $115 million domestically during its opening weekend clearly underestimated the appeal of the film.

Furious 7 cost $190 million to make, as producers made sure no expense was spared to honor Paul Walker’s memory properly, and its popularity suggests they did a good job of it.
