20 Celebrities Who Publicly Said Stupid Things

Celebrity, Entertainment, Funny, Lists, Other, Parenting, Science, Shocking, Social, Weird

Its common wisdom that you shouldn’t believe everything you read. Nowadays, that idiom should count double for the weird know-it-all advice that seems to pour from the mouths of holier-than-thou celebrities. While these people think they are distributing common sense, they seem to think that their fame puts them above knowledge and science while they spew nonsensical and often counter-intuitive advice. Note to celebrities: just because you’re famous and make lots of money doesn’t mean you’re automatically smarter than the rest of the world.

Sharon Osbourne

Just because Sharon Osbourne did an altruistic thing by helping form a colon cancer education program at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center doesn’t mean she knows anything about medicine. Her daughter Kelly admitted in an interview that there are no microwaves allowed in the Osbourne house because Sharon believes they cause disease.

Jennifer Aniston

The star of the TV show “Friends” thought she was being savvy when she recommended brushing your teeth in the shower to save on water usage. Ironically, running a shower head for 2 minutes uses 5 gallons of water…running a sink faucet for 2 minutes only uses 2 gallons of water, and that’s only if you keep it running while you brush.

Sheryl Crow

Singer and songwriter Sheryl Crow doesn’t allow her children to eat anything with gluten in it because “it bogs down the immune system and contributes to chest colds.” If she ever bothered to learn the actual dietary science she would know that, unless you are gluten intolerant or have Celiac disease, gluten has zero impact on the immune system.

Nancy Grace

The famous newswoman has opposed the smoking of marijuana on numerous occasions, saying, “people on pot shoot each other, stab each other, strangle each other, drive under the influence, [and] kill families.” While plenty of violent people partake, there is no evidence that smoking marijuana causes people to commit violent crime.

Russell Brand

In a serious political speech, British comedian Russell Brand said “the American murder rate is 50 times that of any other developed nation.” Nice try U.S.A. hater, but that’s not even close to being true. The lowest murder rate of a first world country is Luxembourg with .2/100,000; America’s is 5.4/100,000. Comparatively, Russia’s murder rate is 65x greater than Luxembourg’s; Mexico’s is 110x higher; Venezuela’s is 288x higher.

Jim Carrey

The comedic actor staunchly backs the notion that vaccinations in children cause autism. Even though Carrey sites support form the “scientific community” that the vaccine additive Thimerasol is the toxin that causes autism, the preservative hasn’t been used in vaccines since 2001. Thimerasol was removed from vaccines as a precautionary measure, but there is still no concrete evidence that it is even remotely harmful.

Michael Douglas

It is true that the Human Papillomavirus can cause cancer, but don’t believe everything you hear about transmission. Actor Michael Douglas tried to blame his own throat cancer on HPV caught during the giving of oral sex – sorry, Michael, it was far more likely to be all of the smoking and drinking.

Bill O’Reilly

On his show “The O’Reilly Factor,” Bill O’Reilly has said that illegal immigrants are a weight on the U.S., an uneducated, non-self-sufficient group of people who leech off of American taxpayers. Ironically, statistics show that illegal immigrants most often only take low paying jobs. Not only can they not apply for any kind of government aid – including welfare, Medicaid, and food stamps – somewhere between 50-75% of them file and pay income taxes.

Donald Trump

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has stated that, “scientific evidence for the warming of the climate system is unequivocal.” They probably should have told multi-millionaire Donald Trump before he went on Twitter and said the Chinese invented Global Warming to make U.S. manufacturers non-competitive.

Fergie

Someone once asked pop star Fergie what she does to stay fit, and she said, “I do vinegar shots. It has to be organic apple cider, unfiltered.” While she and many other site the drinking of vinegar as helpful in fat loss, science has proven it pointless to human health in almost every way. Not only that, but it can cause damage to your insulin levels, natural blood thinners, diuretics, and dental integrity.

Alicia Siverstone

While the actress makes a lot of strange claims in her book The Kind Mama, one that makes little sense is how she claims tampons cause infertility. Little does she know that a scientific study has shown tampons can prevent against endometriosis, which is a leading cause of infertility.

Demi Moore

To keep her youthful glow, actress Demi Moore swears by leeches: “You bleed for quite a bit and your health is optimized. It detoxifies the blood.” While leeches do have some medical applications – namely the anticoagulants in its saliva – they don’t detoxify anything. In fact, leeches have been known to cause anemia and varying kinds of infections.

Gwyneth Paltrow

According to the Oscar-winning actress, no mother has any excuses when it comes to losing weight. Paltrow has her own personal trainer, chef, nanny, and housekeeper – but apparently the average mother (who works about 80 hours a week) just isn’t trying hard enough.

Simon Cowell

The “X-Factor” judge, along with many other celebrities, love to praise the rejuvenating powers of vitamin IV drips. While he says he feels better, there are no proven benefits of getting the infusions. Ironically, some physicians say that letting vitamins bypass the body’s natural defenses in the digestive system can cause more harm than good.

Mayim Bialik

The real-life PhD and “Big Bang Theory” actress says that humans are the only mammals that don’t consume their placenta and should for their protein and iron-rich nutritional properties. Too bad seals, dolphins, camels, and whales, among many others, don’t eat their placenta.

Madonna

Ever wonder what the best remedy for athlete’s foot is? Pop star (and apparent fungal expert) recommends peeing on your feet in the shower. While urine is sterile, any doctor out there would probably prescribe a good anti-fungal cream instead.

Heather Mills

It’s more than okay to be opposed to meat eating, but making up wild stories about its dangers to human health is just ridiculous and sad. Too bad Heather Mills, ex-wife of Paul McCartney, publicly stated that meat sits in the colon for 40 years where it putrefies before giving you a deadly illness – science has proven that it takes any and every kind of food a mere 53 hours to be completely digested.

Alicia Silverstone (Again!)

The Clueless actress certainly lives up to her most famous role. Another passage from her mothering book suggests that all new moms, no matter what their income, can and should be able to take a year off after having a baby.

Roger Moore

According to James Bond actor Roger Moore, eating foie gras causes Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. According to medical experts, there is no link between those illnesses and consuming duck liver.

Gwyneth Paltrow (Again!)

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow not only likes to tell hard working people that they should be able to find time to exercise no matter how hectic their lives, she also like to give out health advice. She recommended that women should use steam to clean their vaginas and balance hormone levels. Real doctors say there is no need for this as the female anatomy cleans and balances itself on its own – they also say that steaming delicate lady parts is dangerous.
