There are billions of human beings on this planet at any given time, but only a select few manage to have their names written down in history books as being a horrendous villain. Individuals such as Hitler and Stalin are always considered for this role, but there are plenty more out there who took crime, murder, and tyranny to the next level while they were alive. Of course, these are only a select ten, as there are plenty more out there, both alive and dead. Maximilien Robespierre

Maximilien Robespierre, a revolutionary, was not the type of man whose courage and willingness to fight against tyranny made a massive impact. Instead, Maximilien, the leader of the French Revolution, wanted infamy. He institutes the ‘Reign of Terror’, which ended in torture and death for many.

Bloody Mary

Many people have heard of Bloody Mary through the old childhood myth of saying her name three times in the mirror. Well, that frightening little game came from somewhere. Mary I of England, or Bloody Mary, absolutely loved to burn people at the stake, especially those who opposed her ideas.

Emperor Hirohito

Emperor Hirohito, a Japanese Emperor, was the man behind the Rape of Nanking, which was the capital of China at the time. The man sent his army in to rape the entire city. A city that had the most people on the planet.

Elizabeth Bathory

Elizabeth Bathory, a Hungarian countess during the 1500’s, was known as the “most prolific female serial killer in history,” and was also known as the “Blood Countess” or “Blood Queen.” This woman bathed herself in the blood of virgins in an effort to remain youthful.

Heinrich Himmler

Heinrich Himmler, the leader of the SS, Chief of German Police, and head of the Gestapo during World War 2, coordinated the deaths of over 10 million people during his reign. While Hitler was the man behind the entire act, Himmler was the hand who carried out the orders with pleasure.

Idi Amin Dada

Idi Amin Dada is mostly known for killing over half-a-million people. Dada was a Ugandan dictator, and one of the worst in all of history. He is known for human rights abuse, political repression, ethnic persecution, killings, nepotism, corruption, and economic mismanagement.

Dr. H. H. Holmes

Otherwise known as America’s first serial killer, Dr. H. H. Holmes moved to Chicago where he built a torture chamber within his home. He rigged the bedrooms in his “Murder Castle” with gas lines, soundproofing, and lime pits. He dissected the bodies of those he kidnapped and killed. He is estimated to have killed over 200 people, however only nine have been confirmed.

Pol Pot

Pol Pot, the leader of the Khmer Rouge and Prime Minister of Cambodia during the 1970’s, relocated the population of Cambodia to farmlands where they were turned into slaves. Pot, besides starving his population, was known for mass executions in the middle of Killing Fields. Spades, axes, hammers, and sharpened bamboo sticks were used to conserve ammunition.

Jim Jones

Jim Jones, leader of the People’s Temple, a cult based in San Francisco for some time before moving to Guyana, convinced over 900 members to use cyanide and kill themselves. This is the largest loss of life within the United States before September 9th, 2011.

Caligula

Caligula, a Roman emperor, began his time in office with gambling and spending too much money. Unfortunately, it turned bloody quite quickly. Killing turned into his favorite activity before he announced himself a God.
