10 Of The Coolest Plants On The Planet

Lists, Nature, Shocking

Plants are rather wonderful if you stop and truly think about what they do for the planet and everyone that encompasses it. Plants are abundant, they are beautiful, and they can be medicinally helpful when it comes to healing various ailments in the human body. Trees, for example, can grow to some truly impressive heights, all the while they help feed the planet with oxygen that we require to strive and survive. Here are ten of the coolest plants on the entire planet.

Aloe Plant

Aloes are great little plants that require very little maintenance from people. They are great to look at whether they bloom or not, but it is their healing property that makes them so cool. The semi-sticky fluid that is emitted from within the plant can heal burns, so if you’ve ever got sunburn, you know which plant to turn to.

Amorphophallus

The Amorphophallus, sometimes referred to as the Misshapen Penis Plant, is a tad bit ugly, but rather useful. The flower comes in multiple colors, and functions as the perfect insect trap. Despite being useful, it smells of rotting fish.

Nepenthes

The Nepenthes plant, sometimes referred to as the Pitcher Plant, is a carnivorous trap that catches prey inside of the deep cavity that makes up its body. The prey flies in, then cannot be removed on its own.

Rafflesia Arnoldii

Rafflesia Arnoldii, which is an odd enough name on its own, is a plant that lacks chlorophyll, therefore it cannot perform photosynthesis effectively. Despite this, people say the plant smells distinctly like a rotting corpse.

Dracunculus Vulgaris

Dracunculus Vulgaris, which is quite a mouthful all on its own, is a flower that is bursting with the scent of rotten meat. The odor is removed on the first day, thankfully, and then the plant is simply an exotic beauty.

Sundew

Sundew is found across the entire planet, and is a carnivorous plant that attracts insects through the use of nectar. That is not nectar, though, as it is just tendrils on the plant that coaxes new prey. You can truly watch the prey being captured.

Hydnora Africana

Hydnora Africana appears above the ground in small portions. Only the flower is visible above the dirt, but that is the best part. It is thick and said to be succulent in its texture, with three openings. They are parasitic, though.

Welwitschia Mirabilis

The Welwitschia Mirabilis appears like a pile of rubbish, but is actually two leaves, a stem, and its roots. The plant is rather unique, as the leaves simply grow larger and larger without shedding. They can grow up to 0.5m high.

Stinking Titan Arum

The Stinking Titan Arum is known for being larger than a grown man, though it does produce quite the nasty smell, much like rotting roadkill. The color is a deep burgundy, which is interesting enough on its own. The locals call it the “corpse flower.”

Venus Fly Trap

The Venus Fly Trap is probably one of the coolest plants known to man, as it has short, spiked leaves and consumes any living prey that enters its mouth. Its leaves snap shut when an insect is inside of the mouth-like portion of the plant.
