When it comes to a mystery, having some kind of photographic evidence is usually pretty helpful in solving the mystery. However, there are a numerous cases of photos themselves being the actual mystery that can’t be solved. We’ve searched the internet archives to find the most bizarre mysteries that have been caught on camera. Some of them will scare you and some will make you wonder, but they all have one thing in common – they cannot be explained. Grandpa’s Ghost

Denise Russell’s grandmother was 94-years-old when this photo was taken during a family picnic. It features her grandmother and a man standing behind her that looks exactly like her grandfather who died 10 years prior. Denise’s family are completely sure that her grandmother’s deceased husband was standing there watching over her.

The Hook Island Monster

Hook Island, just off the coast of Queensland, Australia, is the home of the hook monster. This photo was taken in 1964 and features a huge creature that is believed to be at least 30 feet long, bigger than anything else that lives in the sea.

John Doe 29

During an investigation, the FBI came across a series of disturbing photos of a young girl being abused by an unidentified man. The photo the FBI published above was the only one in the series that was safe to publish and shows the man holding the young girl. The man was named John Doe 29 and the problem with the photo is it cannot be established where it was taken or where and not one single person ever recognized the man.

The Babushka Lady

One of the biggest mysteries that still makes people wonder is who was responsible for the assassination of John F. Kennedy. One witness to the shooting that would be able to provide a lot of answers is a mysterious woman who got the nickname The Babushka Lady, as her scarf looked like one of those scarfs old Russian ladies wear. When the shot fired, she was standing in the clear view of the assassin. She was, however, never found or identified.

The San Mateo Jane Doe

In 2006, police in California discovered a lone tent that carried a note saying: “No Go, No Eat, No Drink, Murder.” Inside the tent was the body of a woman who had died three months prior. Next to her body was a pile of books including the Harry Potter books. After performing an autopsy, the police ran the woman’s fingerprints through a data base only to find out all of the information about her was completely fake. Later, they realized they have no information about the woman and her identity remains a mystery.

Amityville Ghost

One of the most famous hunted houses in America is the one in Amityville, New York, that has been hunted for more than 50 years. The haunting stems from the night of November 13, 1974, when 23-year-old Ronald Defeo shot and killed all six members of his family. On the photo that a family that moved to the house took, a child can be seen that looked like a black pig with glowing red eyes. One of the kids in the family befriended the ghost from the photo and after seeing the photo developed with the ghost on it, the family moved out.

The Murder of Eva Kay Wenal

In 2008, 60-year-old Eva Kay Wenal, a former model, was found dead by her husband in their home. Police managed to get a sketch of one of the passers by that day who could describe a suspicious man who they saw in front of the house moments before the murder happened. After searching the house, the police found a photo that looks exactly like the sketch of the man, but they never managed to figure out his identity. Eva carried his name to her grave.

The Disappearance of Amy Lynn Bradley

In 1998, Amy Lynn Bradley from Virginia was on a Caribbean Cruise with her parents and younger brother. She was last seen by her dad when she left her cabin to go for a smoke on the deck, however she was never seen again. Seven years after her disappearance, her family got sent a photo of her from an escort website. They are not completely sure if it was her but think it may be her. They could, however, never figure out from which escort website the photo came from and never managed to find her.

The Disappearance of Tara Calico

In 1988, Michael Henley who was nine at the time, was taken on a family camping trip. Five months later, 19-year-old Tara Calico left her home in New Mexico on a bicycle and never came back. Five years later, a woman found a Polaroid picture of two young people bound, with duct tape over their mouths. The people in the photo were Michael Henley and Tara Calico. Police never managed to find them.

The Sodder Fire

In 1945, a fire killed half of the Sodder family while they were sleeping in their home on Christmas Eve. The remaining people who survived from the family couldn’t be found anywhere. Odd clues popped up, such as the Sodder’s wires had been cut instead of burnt. However, the weirdest clue is the photo above that Jennie Sodder received in 1968. On the back it said: “Louis Sodder. I love brother Frankie. Ilil Boys. A90132 or 35.” The photo looked a lot like Jennie’s son Louis who was nine at the time of the fire and survived but was never found. George and Jennie believe that their kids didn’t die that night in the fire, but would never get a definitive answer as to what happened to them.
