Parents Charged After Guns Found in Homes of Students Making Death Threats
After students in two San Fernando Valley high schools threatened to shoot their classmates and were arrested, searches of their homes turned up multiple weapons and dozens of rounds of ammunition. Five guns in total were found in the two homes, with the guns and ammunition stored in unsafe locations.
The investigations were carried out by Los Angeles School Police Department, with Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office charging two of the students’ fathers over the poorly stored weapons. The two students were arrested just days after the Parkland shooting in Florida, with law enforcement agencies seeing an increase in reports regarding to gun violence from the public.
Within the two weeks following the Parkland massacre, 235 criminal threats were reported in schools across the LA district, with 21 arrests being made. Let’s just hope this trend will continue.
