Minnesota Firefighter Under Fire For Flying Confederate Flag During A Parade

A Minnesota firefighter is facing a number of questions, after a photo of his truck, flying the confederate flag started circulating the Internet. While those questions are being asked, the volunteer has been suspended from duty. Brian Nielsen admitted that he did indeed put the Confederate flag on his truck but that it wasn’t because he is for slavery or racism. The firefighter said he did it because he feels political correctness has gone too far.

“It was my decision and I didn’t think it was going to be a big deal, but boy was I wrong,” Nielsen told The Associated Press. After the photo went viral during the Albert Lea, Minnesota Third of July parade, the local fire chief suspended him and began looking into the incident. For his part, Nielsen doesn’t seem to think what he did was wrong, instead saying that he was just trying to make a statement and that he doesn’t see people as black or white. Instead he says he doesn’t see race.
