Idaho Man Survives After Being Struck By Lightning

They say that you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than winning the lottery. Perhaps a man from Nampa, Idaho, should start buying some tickets after facing the unbelievably rare odds and being able to live through it.

Ryan Cross was spending Memorial Day weekend in a camping area with some friends. They were riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers until a storm started passing through. Hail began to fall and Ryan decided to get out of the area as fast as possible. USA Today caught up with Heather Cross, Ryan’s wife, who was absent from the group but was able to get the story from him. “Ryan got off his four-wheeler and went under a tree to protect himself from the hail, leaned up against a tree, was looking at a map on his phone, and that is when it all happened.” The following pictures show the injuries Cross sustained from the lightning strike.

Luckily his friends were unharmed from the storm. Cross’ incident is a friendly reminder to take storms more seriously than we normally do, and even though you only have a 1 in 3,000 chance in your lifetime to get struck by lightning, anything can happen.
