71 Migrants Found Dead In Truck Along Austrian Roadside
According to a reports, as many as 70 migrants trying to escape conflict-hit states have been discovered dead in a lorry within Austria. The truck was located in the eastern province of Burgenland along a main rode close to the Hungarian border. Austrian police are describing this discovery as a ‘horrible crime’, and rightly so.
Reports by the local media claim the group within ‘suffocated’ after being trapped within the trailer of the truck for an extended period of time. A massive police manhunt has already gone underway in an attempt to locate the driver of the truck.
There are apparently tens of thousands of migrants from within conflict zones throughout Africa and the Middle East trying to make their way into Europe for a safer life. This particular vehicle was at the scene of the migrant deaths since earlier in the week. The victims within were said to have passed away before that, though, and the bodies had already begun to decompose.
Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Austria’s Interior Minister, said this was a ‘dark day’ for the country, adding that their thoughts were within the victims and the families.
