The world is a beautiful place, for the most part. There are so many natural wonders that aren’t easily located on trail guides and through a tour. Instead, you actually have to get off the beaten path to discover some of the very best waterfalls around the world. Waterfalls come in all shapes and sizes, and some even have different colors thanks to the rocks underneath the swirling water. These are twenty of the most eye-catching, the most amazing, and the most beautiful waterfalls ever.

Angel Falls, Venezuela

Angel Falls, otherwise known as Salto Angel in Spanish, means ‘waterfall of the deepest place.’ This is located in South America, within the Canaima National Park. The drop is 979 meters, however there is a total of 47 drops within the entire waterfall.

Augrabies Falls, South Africa

The Augrabies Falls is located on the Orange River in South Africa. The falls are about 60m tall, and residents have named it Ankoerebis, or ‘place of big noises.’ The gorge at the falls is 240m deep and 18m long.

Baatara Gorge Waterfall, Lebanon

The Baatara Gorge Waterfall is located in Tannourine, Lebanon. The waterfall descends into the Baatara Pothole along the Lebanon Mountain Trail. The water falls behind three bridges and down into a 250 meter chasm.

Barron Falls is the spot where Barron River descends into the Atherton Tablelands in Queensland, Australia. The falls are protected in the Barron Gorge national Park, and generally only has a lot of water after heavy rainfall in the wet season.

This is easily the most famous waterfall on Reunion Island. The falls drop off the side of Bras de Caverne River Valley in four different steps, with the first being 400 meters. During wet season, the falls are quite impressive.

Burney Falls is a well known waterfall located on Burney Creek in McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, Shasta County, California. Water comes from underground springs above the falls, which are a total of 39 meters high.

Cascata delle Marmore, Italy

The Cascata delle Marmore is a man-made waterfall built by the ancient Romans. In total, the falls are 164 meters high, making it the tallest in Europe, and the tallest man-made waterfall in the entire world.

Della Falls, Canada

Located in the Strathcona Provincial Park on Vancouver Island, these falls have the tallest vertical drop in Canada at 439 meters. It’s located 60 km from the town of Port Alberni, British Columbia.

Dettifoss, Iceland

Detiffos is the waterfall in Jökulsárgljúfur National Park in Northeast Iceland. The falls are 100 meters wide and have a drop of 44 meters into the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon. In terms of volume, this is the largest falls in Europe.

The Erawan Waterfalls are some of the most beautiful, though their size changes from between 21 meters to just 3 meters in calm weather. These certainly aren’t the most dangerous, and the natural limestone ensures a nice sparkling blue color.

The Geissbach falls, which are 300 meters tall, can be reached by either using a road or boat. The falls tumble along through a scenic forest down the mountain, making it a fairy tale location for travelers.

Gulfoss is located within the canyon of Hvítá river in southwest Iceland. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the entire country. The falls take a sharp turn into a crevice, which is hidden at first, making it appear as if the water is disappearing into the earth.

Helmcken Falls is 141 meters tall, and is located on the Murtle River in Wells Gray Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. The falls are named after John Sebastian Helmcken, a physician who never had the opportunity to see the falls for himself.

High Force, England

High Force is a nice spot to visit due to the river splitting off into two falls. Located on the River Tees, this 180 meter high fall has a drop of 30 meters which is unbroken.

Huangguoshu Waterfall, China

Huangguoshu Waterfall, known as Yellow Fruit Tree Waterfall, is the largest within China and East Asia. It is located on the Baihe River, and is 77.8 meters tall and 101 meters wide.

Iguazu Falls, Brazil/Argentina

The Iguazu Falls are located on the Iguazu River along the border of Brazil and Argentina. Some of the individual falls – the waterfall consists of 275 falls – are up to 82 meters high.

Langfoss has a total height of 612 meters, and the tallest single drop of 612 meters. The falls are located in Norway, and are considered to be one of the most impressive in the country.

Multnomah Falls are located on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, which is located between Corbett and Dodson. The upper falls are 165 meters, and the lower falls are 21 meters. In total, the height is 188 meters.
